Marion Military Institute is a two-year, state-supported, degree-granting educational institution located in Marion, Alabama.
As part of their program of instruction, MMI offers flight training to three categories of students:
a. One-Year Students. Service academy-tracked students in the Academy Prep program, normally one year in length. Their requirement is to demonstrate flight aptitude to maximize chances of gaining a pilot slot from their service academy. Achieving a Private Pilot License (PPL) is not a part of their requirement.
b. Two-Year Students. Civil aviation-tracked students. Their requirement is to obtain a
PPL during their two years at MMI. They will then transition to a commercial flight school or transfer to a four-year program (e.g., Auburn or Troy Universities). These students will also pursue additional hours in preparation for additional ratings.
c. Two-Year Aviation Degree Students. Civil aviation-tracked students. We anticipate
beginning a program for an aviation associate’s degree in applied science. The requirement for these students is to obtain a PPL during their first year at MMI.
Then progressively work on additional certifications in the following terms
(instrument, commercial, etc.).
d. Ad Hoc Students: A limited number of students who arrive at MMI with some/most of a PPL completed and will require varying amounts of flight hours to complete their PPL.
MMI also offers an introductory summer Aim High Flight Academy (AHFA) program that
includes both ground school and 12-15 hours of in-flight instruction, culminating in solo flights for participating students. These trainees will either be MMI students or come from a variety of sources through the Education Service Agreement that MMI has signed with the US Air Force. MMI is seeking a qualified aviation training provider capable of delivering comprehensive FAA Part 141–certified instruction in support of Marion Military Institute’s aviation programs for Academic Year 2026–2027. The selected contractor will be responsible for providing aircraft, instructors, simulators, curriculum support, training records, and operational oversight necessary to meet MMI’s aviation training objectives. Proposals submissions must be received by 1:00 PM
on July 15th, see RFP for requirements and details.
