SCOPE OF WORK:
The scope of work on this project generally includes the replacement of approximately 2,280 linear feet of existing Asbestos Concrete (AC) water main with PVC water main within the Craig Field neighborhood in Selma, Dallas County, Alabama. More specifically, work includes the excavation to a depth of approximately 3 feet to create a trench along the designated water main alignment, cutting and capping of the existing 6” AC pipe for abandonment in place, and the installation of approximately 2,280 linear feet of new 6” C900 PVC pipe including tracer wire and approximately 46 1.5” service connections between the new water main and existing copper service lines. Work also includes the replacement of 8 fire hydrants within the project area and in the installation of all necessary valves, fittings, couplings, thrust blocks, curb stops, and associated appurtenances required for proper water main operation.
To ensure proper pipe bedding, drainage, and long-term stability, a combination of No. 610 crushed aggregate or approved equivalent and ALDOT Type #825B crushed aggregate base will be used to backfill trenches upon water main installation. To restore neighborhood roadways to their original condition following water main installation, existing asphalt surfaces must be milled, with a new 1.5” asphalt wearing surface installed. Concrete repairs will be made to any curbs, driveways, or sidewalks impacted by construction. Finally, the Contractor will also be responsible for all erosion control, seeding, landscaping, and site clean-up as needed once construction is complete.
